Surfing the Satisfaction of Achievement

“Goals are the master-key to success!”

Hard not to agree with that, right?

If you could more reliably set and achieve lofty, inspiring goals the world would be yours, however you chose to define success.

Yet, I feel very safe in saying that goals, while coveted and revered, are more often nemesis than ally. We more often feel frustrated and incapable than powerful and confident when staring at a lofty goal.

If you’re part of the 3.1% of people who have this mastered goal achievement, you happily are excused. As you were…back to checking email or what have you.

The rest of us, that includes you; what follows is highly relevant, arguably the most important stuff you can be doing, seeing, thinking at this very moment. For every time-sensitive stress you are experiencing is the side-effect of struggling at achieving your goals.

Read on and let’s change this…

If goals are so vitally important to our success and happiness why do they so often fail us? And how do we get goals back on your side?

It’s the rare exception when a goal hits that perfect note—clear and inspiring—you effortlessly gliding on the perfect “flow state,” failure nowhere near your mind.

Most of us have known these times—albeit but brief glimpses. Once you’ve felt the power of alignment and flow anything less is just grueling effort.

What if you could almost guarantee that every goal you set could be just such an empowering, flow experience?

What if you could reliably produce your desired results in the exact times you set out to achieve them?

How will this change your life?

Consider this your invitation to forget everything you’ve ever known, or believed, about goal setting and achievement and embrace “The Rules of Achievement”—that will transform even the most lofty goals into a series of bite-size steps that will have you confident and eager to attack that next big, big thing in your life.

If you’re part of the 97.7% who are leaving your success to chance, just a few weeks of this and you’ll be unstoppable.

Knowing The Rules Changes Everything
Life is anything but an exact science. We bob-and-weave our way through, hoping to land on our feet more often than not. That’s the nature of it—the valleys are as essential a part of the journey as peaks.

But take baseball. Now there’s an exact science or at least a set of rules that you can rely on.

Just for a moment imagine you didn’t know the rules of baseball but wanted to get into the game. You’ve been watching others play it and it looks fun so you wisely figure it’s time you give it a go.

Without knowledge of the rules you’ll be burning energy, running in circles making an general ass of yourself while having zero fun! For the rules are not just about how to play the game but they also hold the key to winning. And it’s in the wining that the game element is found.

Once you know the rules, and how to win, you’re instantly focused, improving as you are getting feedback. Now you’re enjoying the game, getting in to “flow “ and things just start coming your way.

Unfortunately, most of us treat goals more like life, without a clear set of rules, and less like baseball—as a result we find ourselves running furiously in circles while we tell people we’re “trying to achieve our goals.”

That’s like running around your couch telling people who ask that you’re “trying to climb Mt Everest.” It’s less reality than fantasy.

Stop Running in Circles, Already

You can stop running in circles now!

Why?

Because there are rules to achievement. I know. I’ve found them and they are sound, proven and undeniably real.

I found them in the life’s work of a dear friend. Please don’t confuse them and him. As wise as he is, he didn’t create the rules for achievement. Like any great map maker just identified them, recorded them and is sharing them for you to apply.

That’s really the most accurate way to think about The Rules, as a map for how to achieve.

The brand spanking new guide to goal achievement and success is found in a book called, The 7 Rules of Achievement.

Yeah, I know; damn good title. It is just what it says.

It’s not another fitness book, nor a business success book. It’s the step-by-step rules for achieving both of the above and anything else you can dream of.

As hard as it may be to believe, you can achieve what you want when you want from where you are now—you just have to understand the rules.

Once you do, the impossible instantly becomes the possible; achievement stops looking like a mystery and becomes a simple series of actions big enough to make progress and yet small enough to take.

Too Big, Too Small, Just Right…

Not knowing “The 7 Rules of Achievement” is the #1 cause of frustration and failure, delay and boredom. It’s keeps people stuck in the same place, lather-rinse-repeat, year after year.

We’re told by the experts to aim high, to set aggressive, inspiring, lofty goals.

When we do, we set ourselves up for failure. We become frozen, unable to take action for there’s clear first step to even begin to move us towards this huge vision. Even our best running leap would clearly be futile.

As a result we detach, withdraw or experience tremendous, defeating frustration.

It doesn’t take much of this to desire some success so we wisely set a goal that you small enough we can surely achieve it. The result of aiming too low is you get bored before you start. There’s no energy to propel you—for achieving it doesn’t much matter.

The sweet spot, just like the tale of the three bears, is not too big, not too small but just right.

When you hit a goal that’s just right, compelling and exciting and that seems possible, you get the a charge of energy and are drawn to action. Right?

Ideally, yes. But there’s a problem. You see, the perfect fit goal, the one that’s just the right size to bite off is almost always just a little too small to compel and energize. Setting goals that are within your belief system are pre-disqualified from being inspiring.

Good news is there is a better and more powerful solution.

Rather than going for some “good enough” goal stick with the high-aim and choose the Big Goal. But rather than being defeated, getting stuck staring, apply The 7 Rules of Achievement and chop that tree into bite size pieces that you can and will execute upon on.

This way you get the uplifting energy of a lofty goal and you get the confidence of knowing where and how start. After a time or two your capacity and confidence will continue to grow as you achieve higher and higher goals.

The key isn’t in always aiming just right but in elevating the just right to include lofty goals.

Sheesh. What a teaze. I wanted to see what the seven rules of achievement were right now so I came to Shawn’s site. Only to find they are in a book that is on sale. Further down it says I can see the rules now on Facebook, but ss the Dept. of Education blocks Facebook, I still haven’t seen the rules yet. Now I feel not only unimpowered to reach major goals, but like I’ve lost time to achieve stuff at work…for nothing. …It’s okay though. I’m still cool with you Shawn…and your brother, too.

      Dee,

Glad you felt some pull… it would take a series to lay out the 7 Rules… and guess, what? Tom does in really great series of videos which you can see at the bottom there.

There’s Tom’s Rules… I think he’s done a great job. The point of what I was saying is that there are Rules… sure, not absolute but a system that works is a a system that works. If you don’t wanna invest the $12 in Tom’s 7 Rules, from Amazon.com, you can rely on my Vision, Goals and how to achieve chapter in Strength for LIFE. It’s pretty strong as well. Although, it’s not an entire book committed to the art of Achievement.

Once again, check the videos out… enjoy the ride.

      Thanks for reading.

How can you really know what you want? I thought in the past that I really wanted something and now I know I didn’t really want it that much. We’re ever changing. I have NO clue how to get clear on this. I feel like a rudderless ship!

      Joe,

What you really want is a damn good question…. I often find myself unsure of the right thing to do, the absolute destination. I’ve known the feeling.

Here’s how I see it… Ultimately there is no absolute answer. There is only your best guess at the moment but only through movement towards–progress–can you discover the next thing and get clearer on what you want. And then you do it again, and again.. and you keep moving.

You don’t try to get it “right” you get it moving.

That said, the reliable “wants” are always found in the foundations of things like health, a good heart, good freinds, meaning in your life. We can want to feel good, be liked, make a difference.

These things will never leave you empty or lost.

      To Your Strength, Shawn
