Whether carrying an “extra 10” or an excess 50 pounds, this question is never far from mind for millions of Americans.


I’m sure you’ll agree, there are few of us who wouldn’t eagerly embrace a leaner, fitter down-right “hotter” body if it were available, easily.

Ah, but the catch? “Easily.”

It’s that “e” word that gets us in trouble. Why? Because the brain is wired in such a way that it is both easy to confuse and confused easily.

Your Mind on Weight Loss is Vulnerable

Your mind is amazing. When you want something it goes into an automatically seeking mode. No “trying” required.

A part of the brain called the Reticular Activating System (RAS), responsible for arousal and motivation, starts honing in on it like a built in radar system.

That’s the good news.

What’s not so helpful is that in this unconscious “hunting” state, your brain is doing its “radar” thing masterfully, but not operating in a discerning, critical thinking mode. It’s solving a pressing problem, not writing a symphony.

Think about how your brain gets when you misplace your car keys. It wants those missing keys found so it can stop thinking about it. It wants relief!

Same goes for weight loss. You want to shed pounds so the brain hunts the solution. It wants relief.

And given the daily dose media bombardment of “lose weight fast” products, the shortest chain of logic concludes the solution looks an awful damned like a weight loss pill.

Advantage Weight Loss Pill, Disadvantage You

Open any magazine, newspaper or turn on the TV and you’ll see is an impressive stream of weight loss promises presented as “proof.” It’s everywhere! It’s like your brain is starving and all it sees is prime cuts of juicy filet!

I ran across just such a tempting weight-loss ad this morning—and have to admit, the charts and graphs looked impressive. Heck, I too wouldn’t mind losing fat at “3 x the speed of light.” Why not, right?

Just The Facts, Sir

Yes, impressive graphs in the ad and a purported “141% increase” in something called FREE–resting energy expenditure and other big stats scream relief.

But upon taking a deeper look at the stats, cutting through the puffery, all the smoke and mirrors comes out to just over 100 additional calories burned daily.

That is, of course, if you pop these pills twice a day, tolerating the potentially lethal levels of caffeine and various stimulants in it.

All other ingredients aside, the caffeine alone in these pills is equal to 7 cups of coffee. If you’re over 33, I wouldn’t show this stuff to your Doc, he might kill ya before this stuff does.

“So what we’ve got here is a
weight loss pipe dream and
a pipe bomb for your health.”

Yet we, the people, gulp them down to the tune of $4 billion annually.

And when it doesn’t really work or you can’t sleep, you’re lead to believe it’s something you did wrong, that you failed.

How Weight Loss Really Works.

With calculator in hand, still fuming from my investigation into the paper-thin science of weight loss pills, I got to thinking about how weight loss really works.

What releases the weight—cuts body-fat—and keeps it off?

First, most basic and yet oft ignored, to lose weight you’ve got to eat fewer calories than you burn each day. That means some mix of eating less and moving more, right?

Second, to keep it off, it’s vital that your blood sugar, and thus insulin remain at moderate, steady levels.

When blood sugar is up high from eating pure and/or simple carbs, it’s impossible to release an ounce of fat. It shuts the gates, tight.

When insulin spikes to counteract the high blood sugar, driving it back down, it usually overcorrects and leaves you hungry enough to eat the wrong end of a rhino. Suddenly you’re Dracula on a donut and you have no idea what happened.

This is why eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day, as I advise, has been widely accepted and successful. It keeps your blood sugar and insulin levels on the right course, working for you all day.

Of course there are other variables that contribute but if you’ve got these two mastered, working in your favor, you’re a sure bet to become an inspiring success story.
