Labor Day, first celebrated in 1882 is, as it sounds, a day to recognize and celebrate the laborer, often referred to as “The American Worker.”
And with good reason for the better part of a century the Strength of America was intimately tied to the Strength of America’s work force, our labor capacity and productivity.
But as we all know, things have changed.
And with the changing face of the American worker, the nature of productivity, I think it’s time to accept that whether your work relies more on your body or your mind, that if you’re in the U.S., you are the “American Worker.”
Whether you’re making parts, serving customers or moving pixels, I say today is a day to celebrate your contribution to the collective Strength of the country.
The collective Strength of this country, as well as all countries, has always depended on and will always depend on one thing: You.
Yes, as a whole it’s a lot of big numbers and a lot of fancy measures that don’t always seem to involve you, but when you think about it—what is this country but a collection of “yous” that make an “us.”
In recognition of this day of celebration of all American workers, I give you once again: “The Strength Begins With You”
Here’s to you, and the Strength to lift the World.
Until Next Week,
Stay Strong,

P.S. What do you think your role is in the Strength of our country? Please comment.
P.P.S. In recognition of the holiday weekend I pushed Success Lesson #7 “Why A Pound of Fat is Damn Hard to Lose” to next week’s SSM. Stay tuned.
P.P.P.S. Many thanks to my global friends who impact their part of the world, and who’s countries are bolstered by a stronger, wiser, healthier and more vibrant U-S-A.

Great comments on Labor Day. Strength is not just physical but mental and emotional.

Shawn – My role is in the Strength of our country is and has been simple since before Desert Shield and Storm….to serve and lead the great Soldiers. To do so, you gotta strive to be mentally, physically, and spiritually fit. Hope this labor day finds you laboring less and relaxing more.

By you using a peach and football to describe the fat vs muscle ratio was very helpful for size comparison. Besides fat being ugly and loose to look at, muscle is so much tigher and firmer compared to fat. The only way to lose fat is by building up that muscle!
